Teaching procedures

Step 1 warm up

Play some guessing games. The teacher gives an example, then ask four students to come to the front and describe what they used to be like and what they are like now.

Step 2 lead in new lesson

Show a picture of a party,then say Alfred and Gina meet in the party. Ask :What are they talking about?

Step 3 Listening and reading

Play the recording and ask students to do task1.Give students some time ,then check the answer.

Have the class read the conversation aloud in pairs, then do task2. After several minutes,check the answers.

Retelling

Students look at the passage on the screen and fill in the blanks according to the conversation. After they have got the answers read the passage aloud together

Step 4 . Grammar

Point out the sentences with “used to”in the conversation. Ask students to read them out and teach the meaning of “Used to”and also tell students how to use it including the question form and negative form of “used to”

Look at the pictures, find the difference, and try to describe them.

Step 5 Consolidation Activity 4a-4c

Give students three minutes to prepare for each activity,then check the answers one by one.correct any mistakes if students have. Pay attention to the new words and phrases.

Step 6 Practice

Show more exercises on the screen and have students do them individually.Then check the answers

Step 7 Enjoy a song “I wonder”

Step 8 Summary

In this period, we mainly learned how to talk about the changes about someone’s appearance and personality through a conversation . Meanwhile , we also learned some key words and structures.

Step 9 Homework

Write a passage about how your hometown has changed using “used to”

Preview the next period.
