Step 1: Greeting Good afternoon, boys and girls. Welcome to Tina’s class. Today, we’ll come to Unit 4 I used to be afraid of the dark Section B (1a-1e).
设计意图:教师与学生简短问候,然后进入本课的学习。
Step 2: Lead in: Would you like to enjoy a song? As the song expresses, everyone is always changing. The first kind of change is in the appearance. Can you show me some words about it? (Show some colorful cards to share the words about the appearance) Can you guess who she is? Yes, you’re so smart. It’s me. I used to be short but now I am tall. Can you say something about the pictures with used to…but now. Do you think the appearance is the most important? Of course not. We shouldn’t judge a person only by the appearance. We should judge a person by what he/she does. Personality may be more important. Another kind of change is in personality. (Show some colorful cards to share the words about the personality) I used to be lazy but now I am hard-working. Can you say something about the pictures with used to…but now. Besides the change in the appearance and personality, a third of change is in hobby. What am I doing? I like listening to music now. Can you guess what I used to like? I used to like painting pictures but now I like listening to music.

Step2: Work on 1a
I like dogs now. But can you guess what I used to like. I used to like ants and other insects. What about you? Among the four things, what did you use to like?
设计意图:通过谈论老师喜好的变化,激起学生对自己喜好变化的表达欲;同时处理新词ant和insect.
Step 3: Work on 1b
What other things did you use to like or hate?Write sentences in the box. Then ask your classmates the question and fill in the chart. Maybe the sentences will help you.(hand out the forms)
设计意图:在学生自主探究的基础上,学会与同伴合作对话,进一步用used to…but now表达喜好变化,主动参与语言实践。
Step3:Play a guessing game
According to the description with used to…now.., try to guess who he/she is. If you can get the answer, just stand up as quickly as possible. I’ll make an example for you.
设计意图:通过游戏比赛,活跃课堂气氛,激发学生的兴趣,操练句型的同时,让其从成功人士身上提取正能量,拥有积极向上的心态,提高课堂的有趣性和文化性。
Step 4: Work on 1c
Would you like to be a person like them? If you want to, you must study hard from now on. Do you like your school life? You will listen to a dialogue between a boy and a girl. Can you guess what they will talk about? Maybe the sentences will help you. Let’s read them. Listen and check the sentences you hear.

Step 5:Work on 1d
Listen again. What do the girl and the boy say about things in the past and now? Fill in the chart. Here’s a listening tip for you: just write the first one or two letters of the word while listening and complete it later.
