Step 1. Leading in.

1. Show some pictures of the paper cutting on the big screen. Tell Ss they are Chinese paper cuttings. It’s one of the Chinese traditional arts.

T: Do you know folk or traditional arts? Now discuss with your partner.

2. Ask some Ss say what they know about the folk or traditional arts.(like shadow figures, Beijing Opera, Face-Changing in Sichuan Opera, sky lantern, Chinese martial arts, Clay Figurines Zhang, cloisonne, new year paintings, embroidery, lion dance…)

there are many common things in our daily life, such as paper, coins, forks, blouse and so on. it is a piece of paper, a common thing. today, it will be made into an art form! … wow, what is it? is it amazing and beautiful? so, it tries to show cleverness, which is a part of beauty. Beauty in our life . Beauty in common things

Step 2 .fast reading

*ask:there are many folk or traditional arts. what folk or traditional art do you know?板书 sky lantern, paper cutting (scissors), opera/music/painting/calligraphy. chinese clay art (polish, heat,) chinese knotting, embroidery.

*making predictions. ss look at the title and leads students to predict. today, we are going to learn some folk or traditional arts. please look at the title and guess: what common things are mentioned in the reading? how many traditional art forms are mentioned? what are they?
