让学生思考一下近代有哪些发明，之后通过展示图片引出1a，After that, ask the students the questions below:

Questions:

1. Which one do you think is the oldest?

2. Which one is the newest?

Ask different students to answer the questions.

A: I think the telephone was invented before the car.

B：Well, I think the telephone was invented after the car.

Step Ⅳ：1b Listening practice(5minutes)

Play the tape and ask students to listen to the tape carefully.

Play the recording a second time. Let the students match the inventions and the dates. Check the answers by asking several students to say the answers to the class.
