Teaching Procedures:
Step One: Warm up (8mins)
Play a song If You’re Happy to lead in the class.
Think of what can make you happy.
Review The Shirt of a Happy Man(Part I)
Step Two: Presentation (30mins)
Teach Activity 1c and 1d.(Listening practice)
Read the requirements and statements in 1c and guess the answers before listening.
Listen and ask students to check the answers in 1c.
Read the questions in 1d first. Then listen again and ask students to write down the answers.
Listen for the third time and check the answers together.
Learn the audio script together and role-play it by groups.
Teach Activity 1a, 1b and 1e.(Speaking practice)
Look at the possible endings to the story about the unhappy king in 1a. Do you think any of these is the right one? If so, which one?Why?
What are some other possible endings to the story? Discuss your ideas with your partner. Then role-play the rest of the story.
Do you agree with the poor man’s thoughts about happiness? What’s happiness? Discuss and then share your opinions.
Step Three: Summary (2mins)
In this period, we mainly learned the ending of the story about the unhappy king through some listening and speaking practice. Through the different tasks, we also consolidated the target language and mastered the use of make better. And we understand the meaning of happiness better. Remember, not all of the most expensive things are the best ones. We should know what can really make us happy and wish you happy every day.
