To imagine and then learn about the different endings of the story

知识目标:

1. 会听说读写下列词汇:

king prime minister fame pale queen examine nor palace power wealth grey lemon cancel neither…nor search for

掌握并会运用下列重要句型:

(1)The general finds a happy person with power and money.

(2)What made the poor man so happy even though he had no power, money or fame ?

教学难点:How to better understand the whole story of the king and the poor man;

Try to understand the true meaning of happiness.

【教学流程】

Step 1:Lead-in

Students listen to a song and teacher lead them into the topic “happiness”.

Step 2: Free talk

To use pictures and mind-map,remind the students of the first part of this story.

Step 3: Guess

1. Work on 1a. Look at the possible endings to the story about the unhappy king. Do you think any of these is the right one? If so, which one?

a. The general cannot find a happy person and the king remains unhappy forever.

b. The general finds a happy person with power, money and fame.

c. The general realizes he is a happy person and gives his shirt to the king to wear.

d. The king suddenly becomes happy without the shirt of a happy person.

2. What are some other possible endings to the story? Discuss your ideas with your partner.

Tom: The general found a poor man. The man was very happy.

Lily: The poor man gave his shirt to the general.

Step 4: To use pictures, lead into the second part of the story.
