The analysis and understanding of the students .

The students in Grade 9 have the basic abilities of listening ,speaking, reading and writing in some degree. They have self-confidence in English study. They can express themselves , they can discuss , and they can solve the problems by themselves .

Teaching Methods

I will try to help students to build language accuracy and set up confidence of learning English and cultivate good habits of learning English.

According to the teaching demands, I will use various teaching methods, they are Task-based language teaching, Situational-language teaching .

Learning strategies

I will also use many reading strategies, such as Summarizing , Noting supporting details , Using context ,Inferring ,Recognizing idioms and phrases and Learning actively . These reading strategies are all from <> and students have already learned them .

I prefer to cultivate the students’ abilities of communication, cooperation, self-evaluation and self-adjusting . I just want to make sure that every student can be fully involved and really enjoy themselves in my class.

Teaching procedures

Step 1 Lead-in

“ Good morning, class !” “Good morning , Mr. Tian!” After this , I asked what were

we doing just now . The students’ answers were “Greeting .” “Being polite .” “Showing respect !” All the answers are correct . We do this every day .We don’t feel strange . But it caused a problem in the American teacher’s first class . So let’s turn to our stories . This will help them revise the stories they read on the test paper quickly.

Step 2 Short Summary .

I asked some students to read out their short summaries .This is sure to help them understand the story better. Writing a short summary is the task before they do the comprehension exercises .They have developed the habit . And I can see how they understand the story .

Step 3 Interesting Details and Important Details .

I asked the students to speak out the details which they thought were interesting or important . It is an easy way to recite the story . We also get ready for the next step ,solving the comprehension problems by themselves .

Step 4 Solve the comprehension problems according to the statistic .

According to the Statistic , Exercises1345 are difficult for students in Passage A . Passage B is easy .

(1).Exercise 5 The title .

We used three steps to deal with the problem .

(2).When we solve the title , Exercise 1is easy to solve . So we put Exercise1 after Exercise 5.

(3).Exercise 4 ( Learning Strategy :Noting supporting details .《Go for it !》Grade 9 P70 )

(4).Exercise 2 Guess the meaning . (Learning Strategy: Using context. 《Go for it !》Grade 9 P30 )

As for Exercise 3, I set two Scenes for students .

Scene 1(After reading the students’ diaries )

Didn’t I teach them anything? I described the entire Western?philosophy?and laid the historical background for all the works we will study in class. How should they say I didn’t teach them anything?

Scene 2 ( After the lesson ,the teacher returned to her office with a strong sense of achievement and wrote her diary at once .)

… I was shocked. But I quickly regained my calmness and admiration. I described the entire Western philosophy and laid the historical background for all the works we will study in class. I’m sure that they have learnt a lot . The first lesson is very successful .

(5). Two more steps .

One of the two steps is to put five correct answers together . Ask students to read the short passage .
