Step 1: Warm-up
Brainstorm: Teacher’s self-introduction.
Watch a video: Fruit song.
Ask Ss “What fruit can you see?” and write the title “Fruit” on the board.
Step 2: Presentation
Lead-in:
Show a picture of fruits.
T: Look, there are many fruits. What are these?
Write “What are these?” on the board and explain the new word “these”.
Let’s learn.
Present some pictures of new fruits such as “banana” “orange” “grape” “pear” “watermelon” and guide them to have a general mind of singular nouns and plural nouns.
Read new words all together.
Conclude the grammatical rules of singular form and plural form.
Quick Response: When words arise on the screen, Ss stand up and say the words aloud. They compete with each other in groups.
Let’s chant: Involve the key sentence structures “What are these?
They are ...” in the chant. Ss will do this in pairs.
Pair work: Ask your partner about fruits. Ss will choose to use “What’s this?” or “What are these?” to ask their partners. They will choose three of these fruits.
Conclude the differences between “What’s this? It’s a/an...” and “What are these? They’re ...-s” by students themselves.
