While-task procedures
1. Draw the sky of day and night on the blackboard and introduce the word: sky
T: Look at the pictures on the blackboard. What can you see in the sky?
S1: I can see some birds in the sky.
S2: I can see some kites in the sky.
S3: I can see some clouds in the sky.
...
2. Draw the sun on the sky in the day and moon on the sky at night. Introduce the word: sun, moon, star.
T: (draw the sun in the sky) Look, children. This is the sky in the daytime. I can see the sun in the sky. (draw the moon and some stars in the sky) This is the sky at night. I can see the moon and some stars in the sky.
Invite the students to follow.
3. Invite the students to look at the blackboard and describe the sun, the moon and the stars.
S1: I can see the sun in the sky. It’s big, red and round.
S2: I can see the moon in the sky. It’s big and yellow. I like the moon.
S3: I can see many stars in the sky. They’re bright.
Write the key words in activity 3 on the blackboard and combine them into a chant and act it out.
Sun, sun, big and red.
High in the sky, high in the sky.
Moon, moon, big and yellow.
Bright in the sky, bright in the sky.
Star, star, small and nice.
Twinkle in the sky , twinkle in the sky.
Post-task activities
1. The teacher describe a situation and the students give a quick response with “I can see...” or “I can’t see...”
T It’s a hot day. I feel very hot outside. I put on my sunglasses. (mime putting on a pair of sunglasses)
S1: I can see the sun in the sky. I cant see the moon in the sky.
T: It’s evening. It’s raining.
S2: It’s evening. But I can’t see the moon and the stars in the sky.
2. Show three pictures and paragraphs, invite the students to read and match.
1) It’s big, red and round. It’s like a ball in the sky. You can see it in the morning and in the afternoon. You can’t see it at night.
2) It’s big and yellow. Sometimes it’s round, like a ball. Sometimes it’s like a banana. You can see it at night. But you can’t see it in the morning or in the afternoon.
