Step1. Lead in
Have students enjoy some famous Chinese sport stars and then introduce the topic of “Sport”.
Watch a video and sing a song “I like to play outdoors” together.
Step2. Presentation
Show the pictures of volleyball and basketball. Guide students read and learn the new words.
Show the words of “foot” and “ball”. Let the students know that foot and ball can be combined as football.
Present a riddle and have students guess what ball it is. Students can learn that it is table tennis.
Play some games. Students speak out the words as quickly as possible when teacher shows the new words. Cover some part of the picture, students guess what sport it is.
Present the photo of Yao Ming and have students learn the sentence patterns “Does he like playing basketball? Yes, he does. No, he doesn’t.” Then students work in pairs. One student asks and one answers with the new sentences.
Watch the video of “Listen and say” and answer some questions.
Students read after the recorder and imitate the pronunciation.
Step3. Consolidation
Students role play the dialogue.
One student acts and the other students guess what sports does he/she acts.
Write a short passage “We like sport”.
Step4. Homework
Read and copy “Look and learn” on page 23.
Listen and read “Listen and say” on page 22.
