Teacher shows a short video of a song London Bridge Is Falling down and asks “what’s the song about?”. Teacher introduced London Bridge to students and draws forth the Eiffel Tower.
Step3 Brain storm
What do you know about the Eiffel Tower? Guess the following answers:
How tall is the Eiffel Tower?
When was it finished?
How often is it painted?
How many people visit it every year?
Does it have a lift to the top?
How many steps are there to the top of the tower?
Teacher use a spider-net to summarize the possible answers.
Step4 Listening
To skim through the listening material and guess the possible answers.
To listen to the tape twice and write down the answers.
To check the answers together.
To listen to the tape three times to understand the information and complete the spider-net.
Step5 Retelling
Teacher asks students to retell the information of the Eiffel Tower and gives the necessary tips.
Sample:
The Eiffel Tower is 324 metres tall. The builders finished building it in 1889. Now people paint it every seven years. Almost 7000000 people visit the tower every year. If you want to get to the top of the tower, you can take the lift. If you would like to do some exercise, you can walk up more than 1000 steps to the top.
