Step I: Pre -reading
Show a picture of a dog to arouse the interest and lead them to get into the topic of this unit.

Dogs are our friends.They help us a lot.
Brainstorming: Guess game
Finish Exercise A on Page 30.
Match the kinds of dogs in the box with the pictures below.
Talk about the following questions and help the students answer them. a)What does a police dog do?
What does a rescue dog do?
What does a guide dog do?
Step II: While-reading
Procedure 1.Look?at?the?photos?and?the?title?of?the?story?on?page?31.?Then?answer?the?questions?below.
What do you think the word “eyes” means in the story?
What is the story probably about?
Read the text quickly and let the students get the general idea of the text.
Read the first three paragraphs and answer the questions.

What is Charlie?
What did the receptionist do then?
Read the last two paragraphs and complete the chart.
Learn some new words and help them understand main words.
Step III:Discussion
Students work in groups and discuss the following question. How do dogs save people ?
