Step 1 Lead-in
Play the song (Home on the Range) and follow it. Stimulate students’ interest and motivation.
Let students watch the vedio and then discuss two questions: What can you see in the picture? What do you think of the home? Lead to the topic according to the answers.
Step 2 Pre-reading
Look at the picture in 1a. Say the places in English, such as shops, school and so on. And then present more new words with the help of the pictures and flashcards. Let students can understand easily. Remove language barier in text. Cultivate students language knowledge abilities.
Let students make sentences with these new words. And then underline the places in English first. Then discuss with your partner, “Do you like living there? Why?”
Listen to the passag and circle True or False in 1c. Discuss the answers in groups. The whole class check the answers together. If some sentence is wrong, please give the reason. Cultivate students’ ability to think and understand the text simply.
Step 3 While-reading
1. Sanning. Read the passage quickly and think about the main idea of each paragraph. After reading and let students match it.
2. Detailed reading.
(1).Read paragraph 1 and fill in the blanks. Let students know “Who lives in the community?”
(2).Read paragraph 2 and underline the names of the places in the community. And then fill in the blanks with them. Let students think about “What’s in the community?” After reading the two paragraphs and let students pay attention to the details.
(3).Read last paragraph and complete the sentences. Let students learn to how to find out the key words.
Step 4 Post-readinge
Summary. Use “mind map” to understand carefully. Retell the passage with their own words to the whole class in pairs with the help of the mind map.
Group work. Design your ideal community using mind map in group.
