Analysis of the students
The students in Grade 5 have a basic knowledge of English. And they are eager to learn something new. So, I will use some activities to encourage them speaking out.
Teaching and learning methods
I will mainly use peer evaluation and teacher evaluation in the class to help students make a effective feedback. I will mainly adopt Task-based teaching methods、audio-lingual methods and situational teaching methods to arouse students passion of learning English. During teaching process, I will mainly use pictures、 type recorder and PPT as my teaching tools.
Teaching procedures
Step 1 Lead-in
1、Set a situation about “we will have a sports meeting next week” and divide the whole class into 4 groups.
2、Show some pictures about sports to show some actions such as run fast、 jump high and so on and have a free talk with the students. Then let students talk about them. If the student do it well, he or she will get an apple.
3、Play a chant and let students sing it together.
“Run, run, I can run.
Jump, jump, I can jump.
Swim, swim, I can swim.
Sports, sports, I can do a lot.”
[The purpose is to have a revision and arouse students’ interests.]
Step 2 Presentation
1、Present a picture about Yaoming playing basketball and have a free talk with students to show the sentence “He can play basketball very well.” And let students pay attention to the new word “well”. The students will read the word by high and low voice.
2、Present another picture about a boy playing basketball and ask students “Can he play basketball well?”. After that play the radio and let students listen carefully then answer the question. After that guide students answer it and let students pay attention to the sentence patterns “Can you...? Yes, I can / No, I can’t.”.
3、Show a ball and pass the ball to a students to show the sentence patterns “ I can pass the ball well. You can catch the ball well.”. Then I will let students play a little game “ pass and catch the ball” using the sentence patterns “ I can pass the ball well. I can catch the ball well.”.
4、Let students listen the radio. Before listening, I will set some questions.
Q1: Can Lingling catch the ball well?
Q2: Can she pass the ball well?
Then choose some students answer them and we will check it together. If the student answer it correctly, he or she will get an apple.
5、Play the radio again and show a form. Then let students choose true or false and we will check it together. If the student answer it correctly, he or she will get an apple.
