Step 1 look at the picture and guess what they are talking about.

Step 2 Show the picture of 1a. Let students look at the picture and talk about the picture in pairs first and then play the tape. Point out the questions:

Q1: Who is Michael calling?

Q2: What are they talking about?

Then choose some students to answer the questions.

Step 3 play the tape recorder ,the students close the book and follow it,pay attention to the intonation. .

Step 4 ask students to act it out.

Purpose:通过看图文猜对话的活动培养学生“看”的技能;通过表演对话的活动巩固情态动词 can 的用法,
