教材分析
The topic of Module 4 in the textbook is “A taste of literature”. In Unit 7 & 8, students will begin to read classics and try to enjoy the taste of literature. It’s the first time for students to read classics and students may find it challenging to read beyond the words to figure out characters’ inner feelings as well as characteristics. Aiming to help students better understand classics, another extensive reading will be added to Unit 7, which is more readable for students.
This extensive reading The Pipe Piper of Hamelin is selected from Sunshine English Grading Reading and is a very famous fable in Western countries. This reading material is an excerpt of the long story with the ending deleted. There are 416 words altogether in the story with few new words so that Junior 3 students can easily understand the plot of story. Besides, the story enables students to discover the complicated personalities of two leading characters, Piper as well as Mayor and read beyond words. It can help develop students’ thinking ability and analytical ability. Through this extensive reading class, students may benefit a lot and easily “taste” other classic reading.
学情分析
Students from Class 2 have active minds and usually behave well in class. They are good at expressing their thoughts but their thinking abilities still need improving. Moreover, most of them has developed a good habit of reading but they seldom read English newspaper or novels.

Language ability:learn new words through pictures, context and word formation.
Learning strategy: learn to analyze the personalities of characters from different angles through detailed reading and guided questions.
Thinking quality: develop critical thinking ability by analyzing characters’ personalities from different angles and develop creative thinking ability by creating an ending according to characters’ personalities.
