Lesson plan:
Lead-in
Arrange for the Ss to sit in three home groups (18 Ss in all).
Hand out a work sheet with the story on one side and the clue on the other.
Play a short video clip of the film Abominable Bride to elicit the topic.
Tasks in process
Request the Ss to sit in five task groups according to the clue number on each sheet.
Make clear what each task is.
Get down to helping Ss find out the clues.
task of clue 1 --- Put in the missing apostrophes;
task of clue 2 --- Practise using commas;
task of clue 3 --- Change the verbs into the past tense;
task of clue 4 --- Correct the spellings of the homophones;
task of clue 5 --- Identifying noun, verbs, adjectives and adverbs.
Highlights
Ask the Ss to move back to their home groups.
Show the answers of the clues.
Hand out the work sheet with the messages of 32 suspects.
Make the Ss discuss in groups and try to figure out ‘the killer’ as soon as possible.
After-class assignments
Write a reflection of the lesson with the title you like of the following:
1. An exciting lesson
2. Let’s find out the clue
3. It’s awesome to be a detective
