To review the simple past tense, including the verb endings –ed and their pronunciations etc.

To practise raising and answering questions in the simple past tense.

To complete a passage “How did you spend your last weekend?”.

Teaching Procedures:

Stages Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity Purpose Revision Help the students to recall the simple past tense . Read aloud the regular words in their past form, notice the different sounds at the end of each verb.

To review the simple past tense, including the verb endings –ed and their pronunciations etc Help students review some phrases and their past form. Speak out the phrases in their past tense.

To review some irregular verbs in their past form. Show some phrases and let students make up sentences and rewrite them. Make up sentences with the phrases given and rewrite them into negative, yes-no questions and wh-questions and answer them. To review the statement ,the negative and yes-no questions and the wh-questions in the simple tense. Reading Part One:

Use the recording to let students listen to Peter’s diary Listen to Peter’s diary and do T or F.

Read aloud Peter’s diary . To get the main idea of Peter’s diary. Part Two:

Show out the important phrases in Li Hui’s diary and organize students to work in pairs. Read Li Hui’s diary and complete the sentences.

Read aloud Li Hui’s diary and check the answer.

Underlines some phrases according to Chinese given.

Work in pairs to talk about Li Hui’s weekend activities. To get the main idea of Li Hui’s diary.

To get the language focus in Li Hui’s diary.

To practise raise and answer the questions in the simple past tense. Part Three:

Let students complete the phrases and organize students to retell Linda’s diary. Read Linda’s Diary and find out what Linda did at the weekend.

Read aloud Linda’s Diary.

Retell the passage according to the phrases given To get the main idea of Linda’s diary.

Read the three diary and find out the words or phrase which tell the time or order.

To let students get familiar with the words &phrases which can tell the time or orders. Writing Ask students to raise and answer questions to get to know other’s activities at weekend, and then complete a passage “How did …spend his/her last weekend?” Raise and answer the questions about weekend activities.

Complete the passage by filling in the blanks.

Share the passage with the whole class. To practise students’ communicating skills in English.

To improve students’ writing skills. Assignment : 1. Read three diaries aloud and fluently.

2. Write a passage “ How did I spend my last weekend?”
