Step1. Introduction
1.Play the song —The New Year, and let students sing the song together. Point out one question: What is the song about? Then lead students to answer the question.
2.Show some pictures of the Spring Festival and let’s students talk about the Spring Festival.
3.Point out another question: How do you usually do in the Spring Festival?
Step2. Presentation
Choose some students to talk about the question “What do you usually do in the Spring Festival?” Let students work in groups and write some key words in 1a by themselves.
2.Let students read the passage by themselves and let students divide the whole passage into three parts according to the time order.
3.Choose some students to show the three parts. Point out some pictures about the festival and let students try to retell the passage according to the pictures by themselves.
Step3 Consolidation
1.Let students read 1a again and complete the table by themselves. Ask students to read their sentences in the table.
2.Let students read 1a after the tape by themselves.
3.Suppose you have an American friend and tell him/her about what the Chinese people usually do to celebrate the Spring Festival.
