Sub-task: To write out the things you do on a special day
Background study and material analysis:
The topic of unit 2 is Children’s Day, in which the students will learn the words and patterns of this festival. In section “Look and learn”, they will first learn the names of three places and as well learn to use “What do you do on Children’s Day?” “Do you … on Children’s Day?” to find out specific information.
The students of grade three have already learned “What can you do?” “What do you like doing?” to ask about the things somebody can do and like doing from Oxford 1B and 2B. From Joy of learning, they used the pattern “What do you do?” and the answer. But it’s the first time for them to use the pattern with a certain day. They can also name some places such as “park”, “zoo”, “school” from the learning of Joy of Learning. They can talk about the places with “It is….” “I can see…in the….” “ I can … in the….” So it’s easy for them to learn the words.
Students have already known different festivals and special days such as “Christmas, birthday, Mother’s Day……” So I ask them to use the patterns with different special days. It will help them understand the application of the patterns in the real situation.
