Greet with the students.
Watch a movie about the ocean and sing the song:
Trouble is a friend.
Ⅱ. Lead in
Listen to the tape and let the students get:
What does this passage talk about?
Students tell what they know about water. They can talk about the colors, the tastes and anything else about water until someone says: I/We drink water…
Ⅲ. Presentation:
Show them two bottles of water and some salt.
Put the salt in one bottle of water, shake. Ask the students if they would like to drink and encourage them to tell the reasons.
Write fresh water and salt water on the blackboard. Read the two words for several times. Try to spell those two words as in phonics.
Two minutes for the students to read the 1st paragraph and find the answers of those questions:
What is salt water?
What is fresh water?
Students stand up and answer the questions.
Show the students a picture of the fresh water and the salt water. Students guess the fresh water according to the percentage.
Show them the picture to show that: There is not much fresh water we can use on the Earth.
Students read the 1st paragraph together.
Students take notes in their books: circle the words and underline the phrases.
Ask and answer questions:
Who need water?
When do you use water?
Students try to express their ideas about the importance of water and get the conclusion:
Water is important.
