4. develop an awareness of paying close attention to hot issues of social concerns.
Teaching Procedures:
Step 1: Lead-in (1 min)
Ss guess today’s topic by looking at a picture of Dolly.
Step 2: Comprehending (14 mins)
Ss share the information they have collected about human cloning with the help of their information spiders.
Ss learn tips for making a good information spider.
Ss read two texts , note down benefits and concerns of human cloning in key words and add them to the previous spiders.
Step 3: Analyzing (10 mins)
Students retell the benefits and concerns of human cloning according to the notes in their spiders.
Step 4:Evaluating (13 mins)
Brainstorming: Ss are encouraged to propose suggestions on the better use of the cloning technology.
Group Activity: A speech—“Are you for or against human cloning?”
1) Group Discussion: Ss discuss in groups and generate an agreed opinion.
2) Group Writing: Ss complete the drafts for their speeches in groups.
3) Group Presentation: Representatives from each group make a speech in front of the class.
4) Peer Evaluation: Ss give comments on the speeches.
Step 5: Closure and homework assignment (2 mins)
1. Polish the speech and write an essay about the topic.
2. Log on www.cloning.com to follow up the latest development of cloning.
