By the end of this class:

Students will be able to know scams in terms of its definition, its targets, most common types and the ways scammers use to scam people.(Key point )

Students will be able to understand the importance of avoiding scams and will be able to think out ways to avoid scams. (Key point )

Students will be able to improve their reading skills, such as previewing, skimming and scanning.

Students will apply the information and language knowledge they acquire from this lesson to the communication in "real life" situations, such as to do presentation on avoiding scams and to share what they have learned in this class with others by writing a composition about how to avoid scams. ( Special difficulty)

Step 2—Assessment Evidence Performance task—What will students do to show what they have learned?

Students will find out the main idea of each paragraph.

Students will match pictures with types of scams and find out keywords that can show how scammers scam people.

Students will discuss how to avoid scams in groups and do presentation.

Students will write a composition on how to avoid scams as homework.

Step 3—Learning Plan Learning activities – Answer the question, how do I teach the lesson?

Step 1: Warming- up: show students a video and guide them to talk about scams.

Step 2: Pre-reading: ask students what they want to learn about scams in this class.

Step 3: While-reading: engage students in scanning the passage and finding out the main idea of each paragraph.

Step 4: While –reading: involve students in reading the third paragraph again (Detailed-reading) and finish Task 3 on worksheet.

Step 5: Speaking: organize students to discuss how to avoid scams in groups and do presentation.

Step 6: Writing (Homework): give students tips on writing a composition about how to avoid scams.

Step 7: Appreciation: invite students to read a poem aloud and motivate them to develop a positive outlook on life.

Step 4—Reflection What happened during my lesson? What did my students learn? How do I know?
