To ask the students to pick out the sentences with the -ing form from the reading passage and translate them into Chinese.
To ask the students to discover the form and usages of the -ing form by comparing a lot of example sentences.
To ask the students to do the exercises in Discovering useful structures on Page 37.

Step1: play a game
Change some verbs into -ing forms.
Step2 : tell a story
Hearing his mother’s calling, Colin pretended to be sleeping. Being angry, his mother dragged him out of the bed. The teacher stood there, waiting for his reason. Knowing he was telling a lie, the teacher still forgave him. Seeing his low scores, his father became angry. His father was very angry, deciding to beat him. Hiding behind his mother, he avoided being beaten by his father. Having finished his homework, he played football with his mother happily.
Step3 : discuss the questions
Observe these sentences and try to discover the relation between “Hearing, being…” and the subjects (主语) of each sentence. 关系
