Learning objectives: After this class,
Most students can read and understand the key words, phrases and patterns after learning skills building 1. (E.g. under a black cloud, stuck between, in very low spirits…). 60% of the students can get basic comprehension of non-key words and phrases. Most students can master the skills of recognizing problems.
80% students can master the skills of dealing with a big question, and improve their speaking skills.
90% of the students can write a short essay about solutions to Ma Jie’s problem. Meanwhile, it is hoped that learning the lesson can improve the students’ skills to deal with their own problems in their daily life.
Materials: computer, book, pictures and so on.
The important teaching points: build the skills of recognizing problems and dealing with big problems.
The difficult teaching points: write a short article about solutions to Ma Jie’s problem.
Teaching approaches: Cognitive approach, task-based approach, and situational teaching approach.
Homework: Read the passage in Part A on page 113. Then write an article according to the guidelines in Part B.
Teaching procedures and ways:
Step1 lead-in
1. Use a quick-flash PPT to lead in the topic.
2. Talk about students’ problems.
3. Lead in the problem-solving company and our customer Ma Jie.
Step2 recognizing words that express problems
Introduce Ma Jie’s problems and use three games to recognize the words, phrases and patterns that express problems.
Underline the patterns that Ma Jie used to describe problems in part A.
Listen to the interview held by our company and finish part B.
Step3 discussing solutions
Give an example about how to deal with a big problem (How to lose weight?).
Discuss with partners and break Ma Jie’s problem into smaller questions.
Make a dialogue with your partner.
Step4 presenting solutions
Find out the three points that make solutions clearer and more helpful.
Choose the right sentences.
