Step 1 Warming up
List the vocabulary about sports by showing pictures to review the words and arouse the students’ interest. Try to convince them of the idea that “Sports teach you character; sports teach you about life.”
boxing, jog, baseball, dive(diving), gymnastics, marathon, shoot, badminton, bowling, boxing, cycling, swimming, football, basketball, volleyball, etc.
Step 2 Word Tower
Ask the students to guess the meaning of new words in context by common sense. Pay special attention to the key information.

Wilma had just won two Olympic gold medals both in the 100-metre sprint and the 200-meter sprint.

Step 3 Lead-in
Play a video about Wilma Rudolph and finish “Reading Land” by filling in the blanks with the information about the player.

Skim the title, the pictures, the beginning and the end of the text and summarize the general idea of the text.(who,what,when,where,how...)
