Step 1. Greetings and Revision
1. Greet the whole class.
T: Good afternoon, boys and girls. I’m Lin Yaqing from Putian Qinghuang Middle School. You can call me Ms. Lin. And today I will give you an English lesson. It’s about Unit 4 Topic 1 Section D. (板书Unit 4 Topic 1 Section D)
2. Show pictures of animals mainly learned in this topic. Ask students to say the words according to the pictures.
T:Well,in this topic, we’ve learn some animals, do you remember their names? Please look at the pictures and tell me their names.
3. Review the grammar rules by talking about some pictures.
T: Ok. And we also learnt the comparative and superlative degrees of adjectives. Please look at the pictures and make some sentences, using the comparative and superlative degrees of adjectives. Who will try?
Step 2. Pre-reading
1. Show pictures of a panda, a Chinese tiger and a blue whale. Talk about them with the students to present the new words and phrases: bone, fur, in danger, bamboo, feed on, southwest, land, sea, ocean, whale.
(1) T: But I think pandas are the most lovely animals in the world, do you agree? What do they eat? Bamboo. Yes, they feed on bamboo. And we know they are only found in China. But in which part of China do pandas live? They live in Southwest China.

(2) T: Look at the picture. What’s this? Yes, it’s a tiger. A Chinese tiger. It means “华南虎” in Chinese. From its Chinese name, we know it lives in South China. What do you think of tigers? Dangerous? Strong? However, these strong animals can’t protect themselves.
Look at this. People kill tigers and sell their fur and bones to make money. So the number of Chinese tigers is becoming smaller and smaller. So we say they are in danger.

(3) T: Tigers and pandas live in forests. They are land animals. And some animals live in the sea/ ocean. Look at this. What’s this? A whale. A blue whale. It lives in the ocean.
