2. Word stress

1). Show Ss the definition of word stress and give some examples.

【Purpose：To help Ss understand what word stress is】

2). Read and mark the stress of the given words and summarize the rules(Task 1)

①.Lead the whole class to do Group 1 and 2 and then summarize the related rules.

【Purpose：To help summarize the stress rules about two-syllable words】

②. Ask Ss to finish Group 3, 4 and 5 by themselves first, then lead them to summarize the related rules.

【Purpose：To help summarize the stress rules about words with more syllables.】

3). Summarize the stress rule of some two-syllable words as nouns and verbs.

①.Task 2: Say these nouns and verbs after the recording.

【Purpose：To help summarize the stress rule of some two-syllable words as nouns and verbs.】

②. Task 3: Mark the stress in each of the words in italics. Then read this conversation aloud.

3. Sentence stress

1). Show Ss the definition of sentence stress.

【Purpose：To help Ss understand what sentence stress is】

2). Task 4: Listen and circle the stressed words, then try reading the sentences aloud.

【Purpose：To introduce the first rule of sentence stress: Stress the content words.】

3). Task 5: Watch a short video: What word does Simba stress in the last sentence? Why?

【Purpose：To introduce the second rule of sentence stress: Stress with purpose.】

4). Task 6: Discuss what word(s) should be stressed in the carton pictures and tell why.

【Purpose： To consolidate the rule above and introduce the third rule: Stress new information】

5). Task 7: Dub!

①. Show Ss the video and ask them to circle the stressed words.

②.Show the video again and ask Ss to check the stressed words.

③. Ask Ss to practice dubbing.

④. Ss’ show time.
