一．but
1. 用作并列连词，用来连接并列句子或并列成分，表示强烈的对比或转折。
Eg. They rushed to the station but the train had left.

2. but 作连词还可用于“I'm sorry/ Excuse me, but ...”句式中表示歉意，but本身没有意义。
Eg. I'm sorry, but I can't help you with the problem.

3. not…but… “不是……而是……”
eg. The joy of travelling is not in the scenery along the way, but in the mood when you enjoy it.
