plot (情节)
background(背景)
In England in the 1830s, the poor truly had no right to voice their demand. In Oliver Twist, Dickens presents the everyday existence of the lowest members of England society. He goes far beyond the experiences of the workhouse, extending his description(描述) of poverty of London’s squalid(肮脏的)streets, dark alehouses(酒馆),and thieves’s dens(窝点). He gives voice to those who had no voice, establishing a link between politics and literature with his social commentary.
