Look at the following dialogue:
Rose: It is such an interesting game. I
really want to see it . I
am so glad to have got a ticket
for it. Thank you, Mary.
Compare what John said with what Rose said, and tell why Rose use such, really, so.
The adjective such is used to emphasize an interesting game, While the adverbs really and so are respectively used to emphasize the verb want and the adjective glad.
Rose used them to express her strong feeling about the game — how anxious she wanted to see the game again.
These sentence structure are called
emphasis.
Look at the following sentences. Pay
attention to the differences:
This is the book that you asked me to buy.
This is the just book that you asked me to buy.
I know his phone number.
I do know his phone number.
