She was touted as the safest ship ever built, so safe that she carried only 20 lifeboats. Unluckily, four days into her journey, at 11:40 P.M. on the night of April 14, she struck an iceberg. The ship was sinking fast because 5 compartments had been broken! Many people jumped out into the water. As there were not enough lifeboats ,about 1,500 people died.
