相当于一个状语从句,表示谓语动作发生的时间、原因、条件、让步、伴随情况等。一般说来，这一结构的逻辑主语是句子的主语。
1、表示时间,相当于一个时间状语从句。
Heated, water changes into steam.
→When water is heated, it changes into steam.
2、表示原因,相当于一个原因状语从句。
Exhausted by the journey, she soon fell asleep.
→ Because she was exhausted by the journey, she soon fell asleep.
3、表示条件,相当于一个条件状语从句。
Given time, he’ll make a first-class tennis player.
→ If he is given time, he’ll make a first-class tennis player.
4、表示让步, 相当于一个让步状语从句。
Beaten by the enemy, he refused to let out the secret.
