Talking about animals

Do you know koalas（考拉熊）?Koalas live in the Australian forests（森林）. Sometimes people call koalas bears. They look like bears but they are not bears at all. Koalas are small animals. A koalas is mush smaller than a bear. Like kangaroos, koalas have pouches（袋子）. When a young koala leaves its mother’s pouch, it climbs on her back. Koalas are climbing animals. They usually stay in eucalyptus trees(桉树). They eat the leaves（叶子） of the eucalyptus. They need not leave trees to look for water. Because it receives over 90% of it's water from the Eucalyptus leaves, and only drinks when ill or times when there is not enough moisture in the leaves.

Sometimes they come down to the ground to cross to another tree. Koalas sleep for about eighteen hours a day and they are usually active（活动） in the evening. There are not many koalas now because there are less trees than before in Australia.

Koalas live in societies, just like humans(人类),

so they need to contact（接触） with other koalas.
