About 30 years ago, parents preferred to use characters meaning “ country, achievements and beauty”, but now they are more willing to choose characters indicating “personal qualities and morality”.
Besides, some parents prefer a unique name for their kids, which also causes inconvenience to strangers.
People in different areas may choose characters indicating geo-features nearby, e.g. “山，海，坡”，and so on.
Some may also consult a fortune teller for ideas, which we do not recommend.
Of course, the above is only some of the practices, and you can find out more if you want after class.
2. What about English speaking countries?
In western countries, naming trend is also changing all the time.
In general, western people will consider their family traditions;
Then they may list their favorite names to choose from;
And they will also consider the names of those they respect or worship;
Most parents will try to avoid names related to religions, in case their kids change their beliefs when they grow up.
