Step 1: Lead-in
I will begin with the following:
As is known to all,you are all about sixteen or seventeen years old. In your future life, you might be faced with many choices. You may choose your job, your subject, your hobby, your college, your way of life, your friend,your wife or your husband...
Next I will introduce a girl to you, and her name is Catherine. She was also facing with a choice, that is, her marriage. However, she made a wrong decision, which destroyed three people’s life. Now let’s see what happened on earth?
Step 2: Reading and Appreciation
Stage one---childhood
Show students two pictures of the main scenes in our story and talk something about them.
Wuthering Heights: a sixteen century farmhouse situated on the top of a hill. “Wuthering” means “stormy” or “windy” in the local language. After Thrushcross Grange it is the best building in the neighbourhood.
Thrushcross Grange: the most important building in the neighbourhood. It is an elegant house situated in a large park and is about six and a half kilometers from Wuthering Heights.
Match the two pictures with each description.
Give students a description of the characters who lived in Wuthering Heights and make students imagine the relationship among these people. (Group Work)
Show students a video of Wuthering Heights leading students to answer what kind of life Heathcliff led and describe the real relationship among the four people.
