Step 1 lead in
Students and teacher play a guessing game: Who is he/she?
Students are asked to guess who the person is through the given description of the person.
Teacher introduces the topic of today’s lesson: Adjectives to describe personality by focusing Students’ attention on the words about personalities in the descriptions.
Step 2 Presentation of words describing personality
Students are asked say the meanings of adjectives to describe personality .
Students are asked to describe the personalities of famous characters.
Guess the word according to the explanation.
Step 3 Introduction of Positive adjectives and Negative adjectives
1. Puts the adjectives that come up in Step 2 into two categories.
Category 1: generous helpful reliable honest friendly warm-hearted
Category 2: boring stubborn narrow-minded
dishonest impolite bad-tempered
2. Teacher guides students to find out that all the adjectives in Category 1 refers to the good points in a person, but the adjectives in Category 2 all refer to the bad points in a person. Thus, the idea of “Positive” and “Negative” is introduced.
Step 4 Introduction of synonyms and antonyms
The idea of synonyms and antonyms is introduced
Students try to tell the synonyms of :
shy clever foolish brave reliable diligent polite rude
Students try to tell the antonyms of:
hard-working polite honest open-minded selfish careful fair happy timid cold-hearted
Step 5 Practice of the words learned
Finish Part A on page 7.
