2. have an overall understanding of the points of both sides and do a role play

3. use what they have learnt in class to write a letter to the community they live

Teaching aids:

Multimedia; the blackboard/ chalks; a loud-speaker

Enable students to do a role play based on their understanding of the points of both sides

Teaching procedures:

Step 1 Lead-in

1. Greetings

2. Have students think about question 1: What will you do if you feel hot?

___________________________________________________________

3. Have students think about question 2: What was the life like in summer when your parents or even grandparents were young?

___________________________________________________________

Make comparisons between the past and the present in the economy and the environment. And lead to today’s topic: The economy or the environment- must we choose?

Step 2 Fast reading

Ask students to read the passage quickly and answer these questions:
