Teaching focus and difficulties:
1. Students can work out the meanings of difficult or unfamiliar scientific terms by applying the reading strategy.
2. Students can form their own opinions towards cloning.
Teaching procedures:
Step1: pre-reading
Enjoy a video about cloning human beings and introduce topic of cloning to the students.
Listen to a clip of sound and grasp some information about the first cloned mammal.
Step2: while-reading
1. First reading: to get the main idea of the passage
1) What does the first paragraph talk about?
2) In which paragraphs are these mentioned?
3) Match each paragraph with its correct main idea.
4) Find out the structure of the article.
2. Second reading: to gain some detailed information
Part1 (passage on page42): ask and answer questions
1)What are the different attitudes towards the success of cloning a human embryo? And also give supportive information.
2)The announcement of successful human embryo cloning has caused much debate because______.
