The teaching material of this lesson is from Unit 3, Module 5 of Advance with English published by Yilin Publishing House. This type of this lesson is Grammar and usage, which deals with the basic knowledge of participles, verb-ing and verb-ed. As students have learnt the basic knowledge about them in the previous lessons, I plan to help them review participles thoroughly and learn how to put the participles into practical use, like doing rational cloze when the given words are verbs, and even making sentences with participles when writing. They are also encouraged to read English original works to improve their reading skills.

As to my students, they are senior 2, who are are active and creative. However, they are at the novice level of English grammar and at different levels of proficiency in speaking. So in class, the most important thing is to set up interesting and vivid situations —— lead them into a world of well-known fairy tales, so as to enable them to understand and apply participles better, develop their interest in grammar learning, and encourage them to speak English actively and confidently.

Teaching objectives:

During this lesson, students are expected to ——

Review the forms and functions of participles and the tips on doing rational cloze when the given words are verb;

Enhance language skills of reading and writing, especially writing using participles to make sentences more concise;

Cultivate explorative and cooperative learning ability by means of participating in the class activities actively and bravely in class;

Develop interest in reading English original works, such as fairy tales and novels, which are moderately difficult to read, to improve literary accomplishment after class.

Teaching important points:

Make sure to review participles thoroughly and improve the ability to do rational cloze, especially to know applying participles to practical use, like using participles to make sentences more concise.

Teaching difficult points:

Try to cultivate explorative and cooperative learning ability by means of participating in class activities actively in class and develop interest in reading English original works after class so as to improve literary accomplishment.

Teaching methods:

Situational approach,task-based,students-centered, group-cooperative methods.

PPT course, multi-media, blackboard and chalks

Teaching procedures:

Step1. Greeting

Greet the whole class warmly.

Step2. Leading-in

1. Play a trailer of a latest animated movie adapted from a well-known fairy tale;

2. Lead students into a world full of fairy tales.
